Migration Network Hub
The United Nations 
Network on Migration was launched recently it aims to provide a place where researcher scan access a variety of resources relating to worldwide migration including labour migration, border control  and trafficking. It includes global and regional materials, links to a variety of UN and other major reports, networks of experts, events listings and links to migration data. 

 

 

Unlock anti-racism toolkit  

 Designed for arts organisations in the UK, Unlock aims to provide practical steps on how to  anti-racist action in the workplace.  It is the result of the anti-racism conference Speak-Listen-Reset-Heal that took place in autumn of 2020.  

It is based on suggestions for change made by those with lived experience of racism in the arts. Topics covered include hiring, leadership and inclusivity. Organisations can register to use it most effectively.  


 

BBC handbook online 

The BBC Hand Book was first issued in 1928 and published until 1987 when it became annual reports The contents comprise a  review of the year's programming, cultural and technical achievements. 

A large number are free to download from this magnificent website providing a rich source of information for both media historians, those focussing on the technical development of radio and TV,  and social historians as the adverts and programme content reflect attitudes towards women, children and social groups in society.
The 1928 handbook has a number of pages of advertising for early radios, accounts of the contents of public lectures and items of interest to womens historians. For instance p.17 has a fascinating advert addressed to the women of Britain which informs them that it is their duty to make the home comfortable by purchasing a certain kind of light globe! There are also accounts of the timing and content of programmes targeted at women   

 

 

Annotated index in the Lady’s Magazine;
or Entertaining Companion for the Fair Sex from its first series (1770 to 1818). 

Time to revisit this useful site for researchers prepared as part of a Leverhulme funded project at the university of Kent. It is possible to download in excel or browse online by title, author, subject , pseudonym 

 

 

Center for American War Letters 
provides free access online to a growing collection of 
war letters from every American conflict, beginning with handwritten letters composed during the Revolutionary War and continuing up to emails sent from Iraq and Afghanistan. Mainly letters from soldiers home.  

 

 

World of languages  
ock  

Developed by the AHRC to revitalise Modern Languages and encourage multilingualism,  this free website has nine online games for learners to encourage use of different languages. Designed primarily for children aged 10-14 by fun for all , showing the value of  being multilingual in a variety of settings

Shakespeare day 23rd April- some great free resources 

23rd April is celebrated as Shakespeare day
so here are some great free resources for researchers and students

Shakespeare Documented wonderful resource from the Folger Shakespeare library bringing together hundreds manuscript and print references to Shakespeare, his works, and additional references to his family, in his lifetime and later includes images of legal documents, reviews and some first editions

The Internet Shakespeare Editions publishes high quality materials on:Shakespeare's works His plays, life and times.
It includes texts of plays and poems, details on his career and reviews of film performances

A digital facsimile of the
 Bodleian First Folio

The British Library Quartos
site contains 107 copies of the 21 plays by Shakespeare printed in quarto before the 1642 theatre closures. You will find background information and details of performance, but the site excels in allowing you to compare different quartos side-by-side using high quality page images.
