Impact of CovId 19 on vocational education


World Youth Skills day 15th July focused upon the impact on technical and vocational education.

This is important as The latest Global Employment Trends for Youth 2020: Technology and the future of job showed that since 2017, there has been an upward trend in the number of youth not in employment, education or training (NEET).

In Europe this website has details / reflection on the possible impact on TVet systems

The OECD also has an excellent site with summaries from TVET system responses in OECD nations, there are useful links to their websites

TUC online card catalogue archives
The TUC library has added to its online offering researchers may be interested to know it has digitised its annotated card catalogue which is crucial for understanding British trade union history
This adds to their pre existing online collections

Posters  from the Irish civil rights movement
A great new online exhibition from the Working class Movement Library
It includes images from 1969 posters made in Belfast and by London Poster Workshop. Background context is provided by a recording of

ArcGIS Living Atlas Indicators of the Planet launched


 Esri is creating this resource in association with Microsoft, National Geographic, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network,it focuses on 18 indicators including drought, wildfire, covid 19; rising sea levels and offering  near real time data from NOAA, UN Environment Programme, and US Geological Survey,

The Atlas of Surveillance database (USA)

New from the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), in partnership with the Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno, on police use of surveillance technologies, such as drones and facial recognitin in USA . It includes city and local sheriff level data on a map. Methodology is provided on the map

Her Century Scottish Women on Film 
Available free from the National Library of Scotland this great compilation film encompasses womens experiences in the 20th Century. It includes clips from many great examples covering work and the domestic experience and gender attitudes. A real gem is the red skirts on Clydeside which covers women and the rent strike in Glasgow it also includes a fab clip of the Womens library in the basement of the City of London Poly

The GLAAD Studio Responsibility Index (SRI) 
How good is the representation of LGBTQ characters in major Hollywood films? Find out in the latest annual report from GLAAD which maps eight major motion picture studios during the 2019 calendar year. GLAAD researched films released by Lionsgate, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, STX Films, United Artists Releasing, Universal Pictures, Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros., as well as films released by four subsidiaries of these major studios. It looks at number of characters, time coverage and quality and type of depiction
