 Here is the latest update of new and interesting sites for social scientists

 

This second report – compiled jointly by international organizations, under the aegis of the Committee for the Coordination of Statistical Activities (CCSA)

UN Day South South Cooperation is held on the 12th September 

it is intended to mark the importance of networks of collaboration amongst nations in the Global south as a key to development.

This report  summarises the challenges and opportunities it offers.

·         UNDP-South-South Cooperation

·         FAO-South-South Cooperation

·         FAO's South-South Cooperation Gateway

·         UNICEF South-South Cooperation for children

Latest 2019 annual report by Action on Armed Violence (AOAV)– demonstrates that civilians continue to be disproportionately affected by the use of explosive weapons. AOAV has, since 2011, recorded the global impact of explosive violence as reported in English language media: thi means that it is not all instances but it gives a good indication of trends.

 

 Oil and Gas Transformation Map,

A new interactive tool created by 

Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University/SIPA  and World Economic Forum to track the changes occurring in these energy sectors due to 

the need to transition to lower carbon energy sources. also covered is supply, finance employment, geopolitics, climate change.

 

which specialises in highlighting the contribution of women to history. This section has podcasts the unheard stories of women who took part in campaigns to save and restore canals in the Black Country between the end of the Second World War and the 1970s

 

IKEA Swedish Catalog archive

even if you can read swedish this site from IKEA's Museum in Älmhult, Sweden is fascinating . it contains their jtheir Swedish catalog archive . Great for exploring the social history of furniture design and home surroundings for over 70 years.

 

Google Arts and Culture Cambridge University Library

a newcomer to the great google arts and culture website Cambridge university are adding some fantastic resources amongst the treasures of the library and human anatomy exhibitions there are some marvellous games

including a pop up book of a farmyard and a toy theatre
