Pancake day - historic recipes

This week was Shrove Tuesday so here are some great resources
Find out how to make a Sussex pancake using this recipe published in 1675! from the LSE Digital Library
The Wellcome Library has a great collection of historic recipe books. This example has how to cook a pancake next to how to source a capon in jelly!
BFI Player has on its free section the rather less exotic Findus crispy pancake adverts from the 1980s!
Alternatively try this Pancake song from the Full English Site from Vaughan Williams Memorial Library  
The Tippitoe pancake song was collected in1908 and is a fabulous bit of folk culture You can view more Shrove Tuesday resources there.

 

 

Directory of Open Access Books revamps website

There are now links to over 36,468 academic peer-reviewed books from 598 publishers with the emphasis upon academic books from scholarly publishers

Free access to the The WIPO-WTO Colloquium Papers,  a peer-reviewed academic journal, published jointly by the World Intellectual Property Organization and the World Trade Organization each year since 2010 which aims to stimulate discussion about intellectual property .It has a particular interest in focusing upon issues of interest to developing nations. 

 

Which are the most influential think tanks?

Compiled by the Think Tanks And Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) program at the University of Pennsylvania. This annual report

ranks influence, looks at total numbers and regional and subject coverage. A full methodology is provided. 

 

Encyclopedia Iranica now free online

via Brill ReferenceFree access to the renowned English language encyclopedia about the history, culture, and civilization of Iranian peoples from prehistory to modern times.

 

The Pangloss Collection of  endangered Languages

The Pangloss Collection is a member of DELAMAN, the Digital Endangered Languages and Musics Archives Network. It is hosted by the Cocoon platform, Collection de Corpus Oraux Numériques, and is an open access archive recordings of endangered languages worldwide with the focus on indigenous languages collected on fieldwork by researchers . The website includes the audio recordings plus some dictionaries

new website from The Office of Programme Planning and Finance Budget (OPPFB) and the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT). United Nations. It aims to increase budget accountability by mapping and giving data on budget expenditure and programme outcomes.

WFP Drones: broadening humanitarian horizons

A new website from the World Food Programme which provides useful information on how it is using drones in its humanitarian work. It includes case studies, minutes from meeting s and technical specifications. It is possible to search  by country or use type.
