Sharp Power Research Portal,  

has been created by the International Forum for Democratic Studies. it aims to provide researchers with a single portal where they can find examples of the spread and nature of authoritarian power worldwide. 

It defines the term “sharp power” as reflecting an approach that typically involves the subtle penetration and manipulation of targeted countries and institutions Resources currently relate to power exerted by China, Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. A full methodology is provided. Over 700 resources such as reports and news stories are available.

these webinars were designed by university of Kent to share practice and tips on delivering teaching online . They cover pedagogy and practice. Of particular value  are the  playlists relating to accessible learning online 

  

Ofcom announces new approach to online media literacy 

this will be based on 5 areas 

1.     Engage with the wide range of media literacy practitioners; 

2.     Initiate pilot trials and campaigns to promote media literacy; 

3.     Establish best-practice design principles for media literacy; 

4.     Evaluate media literacy initiatives by producing core resources and guidance on what works; 

5.     Research the state of media literacy and share our evidence.

Global humanitarian overview 2021 

Ocha coordinated review which examines global and regional trends highlighting achievements and priorities for the coming year. This includes overviews of threats such as covid, displacement and conflict. Future needs are considered. 

 

Humanist Heritage
charts the contributions made by humanists and humanism to the history of the United Kingdom. it covers the history of the organisation from its origin  in 1896 as the Union of Ethical Societies. it includes timelines, maps , biographies and themes. topics covered include atheism, freedom of speech 

And secularism.  it includes maps of blue plaques 

 

Smithsonian National Museum of African American history and culture searchable museum 

 Wonderful multimedia site 

It currently has one exhibition on slavery and freedom which enables users to explore stories, zoom in on artefacts and hear stories from the collections. It also has links to further academic resources on the topic 

 

Map the mistletoe
seasonal but scientific ! crowd sourced project from the South London Botanical institute 

Which is aiming to create a map of the extent and type of mistletoe found in London (especially Southwark and Lambeth). It will include images of bark and flowers mapped into areas. The public will send them in and botanists identify them

Christmas from the archives A wonderful Transport for London
60 minute webinar which is fun to watch and informative uses images of Christmas customs from the 20th century with magazine articles, quizzes, photos and story readings from the Transport for London archive
