Government responses to COVID-19: Lessons on gender equality for a world in turmoil UN 

Based on an analysis nearly 5,000 measures adopted by 226 countries and territories during the pandemic this UN Women and UNDP report finds that government responses paid insufficient attention to gender though there were examples of innovation which are highlighted. 

  

The State of Global Learning Poverty: 2022 Update 

World Bank report 

This new report from the World Bank uses a definition of  learning poverty, as a  measure of children unable to read and understand a simple passage by age 10. It finds that the pandemic and lockdown have worsened the situation worldwide. 

  

Digitised Greenham Common peace camp archives. 

Some of the LSE library’s archive relating to the Greenham Common peace camps have now been digitised and presented as a photo- archive on the website of the Greenham Common everywhere website.

The TFL Transport for London Archive 

includes coverage of trains, underground and buses in London 

there are staff newsletters, photographs, documents and posters covering all aspects of transport social history. 

highlights posters, activities during wartime and the changing roles and work of women. 

 

Africa SDGs Progress Dashboard
The African Centre for Statistics of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa has created a new statistics website - Africa SDGs Progress Dashboard. It maps progress against the 17 SDG indicators for the whole of Africa, specific regions and  countries. There are also news stories. The tool is a joint work between the five United Nations Regional Commissions (ECA, ECE, ECLAC, ESCAP, ESCWA).

Marvellous title from Warwick digital Library which has a work in the sweated trades industrial history collection which is of great value for those studying the economic and social history of womens work as women were disproportionately concentrated working in these sectors.  

 The library is gradually digitising  these items most of which come from the TUC archives. Other items include Anti-sweating society, Fabian society and other reports from trade boards. 


 Trowelblazers 

Is a great site which spotlights and provides stories and biographies of women in the ‘digging’ sciences: archaeology, geology, and palaeontology. Fascinating to explore. Includes current practitioners and early pioneers from many parts of the world. 

 

LCC Zine Collection (arts.ac.uk) 

Great site for finding information about the collection held by the London College of Communication. It has information on the collection, examples of digitised copies, details of workshops and training workshops. Includes feminist and LGBT plus examples. 

  

ITU DataHub

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has launched a new data platform. It includes cross national data for over 200 indicators covering the themes:connectivity, markets, affordability, trust governance, and sustainability. The dashboard enables interactivity so users can create and download their own data
