Octopus- new primary research site

 Developed by Jisc with a £650,000 grant from research England. The prototype was launched on. 29th June, the platform gets its name from its approach of splitting the research process into eight separate classes of contribution - research problems, hypotheses, methods and protocols, data and results, analyses, interpretations, implementation and peer review. RE says that the platform should improve access to research. it aims to be open access and to link with orcid ids offering researchers a place to publish open access that complements traditional journal. Browse and search. Beta version now available more functionality and subject content will be added

  

UK Digital Poverty Evidence Review 2022 - Digital Poverty Alliance  

The DPA was established in 2021 by the Learning Foundation, Currys plc and the Institute of Engineering and Technology.  It aims to explore the nature and extent of digital poverty in the uk . This includes coverage of social political and structural constraint on  lack of access to technology. This encompasses lack of money, lack of equipment and lack of skills   


WTO data portal

The new site allows users to access WTO databases on trade, tariffs. It covers intellectual property, trade in different types of goods. Some require subscription. There is a detailed section on statistics including a data visualisation feature   

  

The Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland launched to replace items destroyed in 1922 fire it has been recreated via partners and will allow access to hundreds of years of official documents or Irish history . it can be browsed or searched. There is a section labelled data mining which has The Knowledge Graph for Irish History The Graph uses Linked Open Data technologies to make connections between datasets and archival collections. It also has a virtual creation of the original public record office.   

  

Edric Connor Travelogues – now on BFI player    

BFI player has provided free access to a small collection of 1960s films made by West Indian film maker Edric Connor which sought to raise a real awareness of the people and culture of the region  

  

Atlas of Economic Complexity – Harvard University.  

Time to re explore this great resource from Harvard University which maps accurate real date on global trade worldwide enabling great data visualizations.

Bristol University Press Digital was launched recently. It has  extensive  social science journal and book content, Non subscribers can access open access journal titles in the social sciences . Topic areas covered include the
